My Journey from Undergrad to the Real World

Choosing the University of Central Florida was easy. My best friend was going there and I wanted to go too! The campus is beautiful and I enjoyed that I was still close to home but not close enough to come home all the time. I had no clue what I wanted to major in and I started my first year undecided. Sometime during that year, I decided to major in Business. However, after taking Financial Accounting, I knew Business was not my cup of tea. So I (for two weeks) changed my major to Hospitality then finally settled on Psychology. I truly loved my major and all the classes I took. I loved learning about the human mind and how people interact with each other. After talking with my aunt and uncle (who are both amazing lawyers) I decided that I was going to law school! I picked up a minor in political science to explore the field more. I signed up for LSAT prep classes, and applied my senior year at UCF. About the same time I got accepted to law school and decided that I hated my diplomacy class, I realized that law school was not for me either. I walked my butt to Career Services and decided that I was going to be a Vice Principal. Was I excited? You bet! Upon further inspection into the Educational Leadership program at UCF, I saw a “Higher Administration” track. What was that? What did that mean? Well after two years of Graduate School in the program, it meant that I would get to work with college students and stay in college forever! Not really, but I do get to work with amazing students day in and day out. I just finished my fourth year as a professional (go me)! This journey has been transformative in all areas of my life and I am so grateful and blessed for the opportunities I have had personally and professionally.

  1. Kristen, I had no idea of the circuitous route to your career! I have such fond memories of you BEFORE you reached UCF! You were (and I’m SURE you still are ) such a sweetheart! I’d love to see you sometime (do lunch or dinner?)—you’re so close!! Say hi to your family! Love, Rindy….cell 263-3237….
